Do HP 48A Cartridges Need a Chip
No. Unlike some newer HP toner series, the HP 48A (CF248A) does not require a chip. These cartridges are plug-and-play simply remove the packaging and install directly into your printer.

How to Install HP 48A Toner Cartridges
- Open the top cover of your HP LaserJet Pro printer
- Remove the old toner cartridge from the slot
- Take the new 48A cartridge from its packaging and shake it gently 5–6 times side to side to evenly distribute the toner
- Remove the protective pull tab completely
- Insert the new cartridge firmly into the slot until it clicks into place
- Close the printer cover and print a test page to confirm correct installation
If print density appears light: Remove the cartridge, gently rock it side to side to redistribute toner, reinstall and test again.
