About the Smart Chip

HP Color LaserJet Pro M252/M254 and MFP M277/M280/M281 series printers require a chip on each toner cartridge to communicate with the printer. These myCartridge 202X compatible cartridges come with a pre-installed smart chip that supports toner level monitoring and seamless printer recognition.

No chip transfer needed. These cartridges are ready to use straight from the packaging — no need to remove a chip from your old OEM cartridge.

How to Install HP 202X Toner Cartridges

  1. Open the front cover of your HP Color LaserJet Pro printer
  2. Pull the toner cartridge drawer out to access the cartridge slots
  3. Remove the old cartridge from the slot being replaced
  4. Take the new 202X cartridge from its packaging and shake it gently 5–6 times side to side to evenly distribute the toner
  5. Remove the protective pull tab and orange end caps completely
  6. Insert the new cartridge firmly into the correct color slot until it clicks
  7. Close the printer cover and print a test page to confirm correct installation and color output

If print density appears light: Remove the cartridge, gently rock it side to side to redistribute toner, reinstall and test again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this pack include all four colors? Yes. This 4-pack contains one each of HP 202X black (CF500X), cyan (CF501X), magenta (CF503X), and yellow (CF502X) — all with pre-installed chips.

What is the difference between HP 202A and HP 202X? Both fit the same printers. HP 202A is standard yield (1,400 BK / 1,300 color pages); HP 202X is high yield (3,200 BK / 2,500 color pages). The 202X delivers a lower cost per page for regular printing.

Do I need to transfer a chip from my old cartridge? No. Each cartridge in this pack comes with a pre-installed smart chip. There is no chip transfer needed.

My HP printer shows a "non-HP cartridge" or supply alert. Is that normal? Yes. Press OK or "Use Anyway" to continue. HP printers display this message whenever a non-OEM cartridge is detected. It does not affect print quality.

Will using compatible cartridges void my HP printer warranty? No. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, HP cannot void your printer warranty solely because you used a compatible toner cartridge.

How should I store unused cartridges? Store sealed cartridges in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. For best results, install within 24 months of purchase.
